Provigil is very very tempting to me. Go without sleep, without any of the drawbacks of amphetamines. Salon has an article about it today, describing what it's like to actually use.

I've used it. It's like having the volume in your head turned up. And it was the only substance I've ever tried that made me feel like I was becoming an addict. I built a tolerance to it, every time it wore off I wanted it again, and every time it wore off it hurt more and more, and I started to think eventually I was going to need it just to get through a day. Bad news. This happened in less than a week, and I *was* sleeping every night for about six hours at a time. I got rid of it and never touched it again. The only people I know who've used it with success took it very rarely to drive all night. I guess I was being an idiot for taking it daily. But the thing is, if it can have that reaction in a week of taking it daily, I don't buy the idea that it's not like amphetamines. I've also taken amphetamines daily (by prescription) and it did not have that affect on me.

Used it twice, under a doctor's care. Took one dose, didn't notice much of anything, stayed awake longer in the day, fine.

The second dose, a week later, I had a stressful day and I had roughly the same stressed-out feelings I have when I have too much coffee.

Salon is over-hyping. 1) You still need sleep. No dreams = insanity, no sleep = no immune system workee. 2) Many people do get side-effects of jitteriness. I did. 3) Not addicting? Uh, yeah, sure. Maybe there's LESS of the physical addition stuff. Psychological addiction is the same as amphetamines, coffee, etc.
